Facebook Messenger Celebrates 1 Billion Active Users

0

Facebook Messenger has made history as it celebrates 1 billion active users today. This means you and I are part of the more than 1 billion people now using Facebook Messenger every month, making Messenger one of only a handful of apps worldwide that touch so many lives. The social media giant’s Facebook App achieved this same feat in a single day sometimes last year.

The messenger app is the third Facebook app to reach 1 billion users. The popular Facebook -owned WhatsApp which now has a standalone desktop client hit the 1 billion user benchmark earlier in February and Facebook’s flagship app has 1.7 billion monthly users.

According to a statement released by Facebook Messenger chief David Marcus, “As part of this journey to 1 billion, we focused on creating the best possible experiences in modern day communications. We remain focused on helping connect people to the people and businesses who matter most. Thank you to everyone who uses Messenger around the world, and we’re looking forward to connecting the next billion.”

Messenger has grown rapidly in this year alone, reportedly gaining around 100 million active users every three months. By January, 2016 the service hit 800 million users and 900 million in April. In Build 2016 developer conference, it was announced that Facebook’s advertising SDK will also be available for Windows 10 UWP apps. Also,Facebook SMS feature;was activated this year and we are expecting to have the Group Voice Calls option coming soon to the messenger app.

Facebook released a flurry of stats about Messenger, noting that Messenger has become the second most popular iOS app of all time (behind Facebook, of course). It’s been downloaded over 1 billion times on Android, and 1 billion messages are sent between people and businesses every month. Users also send over 22 million GIFs a day, and 17 billion photos to friends every month through Messenger. It’s clear that Messenger has become the golden child within Facebook, and with the company continuing to add features and encourage developers to create bots for the platform, it doesn’t look like the growth rate of Messenger will be declining anytime soon.
