Google Cast Is Now Integrated Into Chrome, No Extension Needed

Google has announced that, Beginning from Chrome 51 update, few changes to Cast functionality in Chrome will be seen. One of such changes is that the Google Cast toolbar icon is no longer required in order to find or use your Google Cast device from Chrome.

Google Cast functionality is now fully integrated into Chrome browser itself, so you no longer need to install the Google Cast toolbar icon. You simply have to right click a tab or click the hamburger button on the right-hand part of the desktop browser to find a line in the menu that says “Cast…”

Doesn’t mean the old extension is completely useless now, though — you don’t need it to beam anything to your Chromecast anymore, but you could still use it as a shortcut.

Besides, it looks like the feature isn’t available for everyone just yet, even for those with up-to-date Chrome browsers. If you still don’t have access to it, you may want to hold off on uninstalling the extension and checking your menus every now and then.

According to the report, other expected features coming to Chrome 51 includes the ability to cast to Hangouts. You will be able to push Chrome tabs to your contacts within an open video Hangout, which may be useful for remote meetings. In addition, the Cast to Hangouts feature will also retrieve your calendar information to find such scheduled Hangout meetings to make quick sharing easier.

Google Cast is a technology that lets you cast your favorite entertainment and apps from your phone, tablet or laptop right to your TV or speakers.
