Microsoft yesterday announced the release of a new Windows 10 Insider Preview – Build 10136. The new build will bring enhancements to Cortana, photos and camera along with other features.
Gabe Aul hinted that the offering is to phones that are running Windows Phone 8.1 and opted in to the Windows Insider Fast ring.
Cortana has received improvements to the design by bringing adjustments to cards in homepage and in the hamburger menu. It has added dark theme colors to Cortana’s UI. As reported earlier, Cortana has added flight and package tracking as it gets the update from the email. It will also now alert users for going to work, going home and the airport are also enabled again.
Further you can ask questions to weather, currency information, stock quotes and more and get the answers directly inline. Next up is the camera and photo improvements as now when you tap on a month on the photo app to get a list of old photos. You can also now double-tap to zoom on a photo. The Photos app also comes with performance and reliability improvements.
The latest build also focuses on the issue of accessing large screen phones of 5 inches or greater with one hand. Users can press and hold the Start button and your screen will slide down so you can reach items at the top of your screen. To slide the screen back up, tap the black space at the top of the screen, or press and hold the Start button again.
Mr Gabe admits it is not a perfect upgrade experience due to a migration bug. He said:
The upgrade experience is something that is very important for us to get right, so you should definitely expect that we’ll address the migration bug that affected this build. In general, we expect that you should be able to upgrade build to build without having to flash back to 8.1. Thanks to those adventurous Windows Insiders who jump on this build despite a little extra prep, and we look forward to your feedback”.
Microsoft Windows 10 for PC and tablets will be available from July 29th while Windows 10 Mobile wil be due for release broadly later this year.
