Microsoft to Launch New Windows 10 Devices October 6th, See Specs

Microsoft has finally sent out invites to media outlets for its October 6th event in New York City. Even though the invite just says We have exciting news to share about Windows 10 devices, the company is expected to introduce the longtime rumored Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL flagship smartphone, new Surface 4 Pro tablet and a new Microsoft Band 2 in the same event.

Microsoft isn’t revealing exactly what the mysterious hardware event is about, other than a hint at Windows 10-powered hardware.

After a disappointing Microsoft event at IFA in Germany earlier this month, all eyes are now on the company to produce its own hardware and showcase the replacement to the Surface Pro 3. The main focus for Microsoft’s hardware event will be the two new Lumia handsets and the Surface Pro 4. A Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL have been rumored for months, and specifications and images for both handsets have already leaked.

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL rumored specifications

  • 5.7 inch (1440×2560 pixels) WQHD OLED display
  • Matte White or black polycarbonate body
  • Snapdragon 810, 64-bit Octa core
  • Iris scanner (infrared) for Windows Hello
  • 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot
  • 20MP PureView rear camera with triple LED flash
  • 1mm silver ring inside the circumference of the black camera pod
  • Aluminum side buttons
  • 5MP Wide-angle front facing camera
  • 3300 mAh removable battery
  • Qi wireless charging integrated
  • USB Type-C

The Surface 4 Pro could come with a latest 6th Gen Intel Skylake processor, Windows Hello based biometric login, option to wake the PC from sleep using a voice command, battery life upgrades as well as reduction in thickness. The Band 2 is expected to come with a new design with greater focus on aesthetics compared to the original.

The Microsoft Windows 10 devices event starts at 10:00 am EDT (7:30 PM IST) on Tuesday, October 6th. There will also be live stream for the event at microsoft.com/october2015event/.
