In a surprised move, a new beta WhatsApp update has been released for Blackberry 10 users. This will certainly be a relief for BB users as as they can now continue to use the most popular social network platform on their Blackberry Smartphones.
This updated WhatsApp for Blackberry is coming after WhatsApp earlier on this year, announced it will discontinue support for the Blackberry OS and other platforms, a move which was joined by Facebook.
So, If you’re still riding it out with WhatsApp until the end of 2016, you might as well get yourself on the latest version possible. A new beta build has arrived in the BlackBerry Beta Zone.
Although the BlackBerry Beta Zone has been a little wonky the past few days, that hasn’t stopped WhatsApp from uploading a new beta release. This time around the change log isn’t exactly huge, but it offers some improvements that will need to be tested before fully being rolled out.
If you’re looking to test it out, you will, of course, have to have the Beta Zone app downloaded. Once downloaded, you can open it up and find WhatsApp is the list of eligible downloads. Keep in mind, it is a beta release so there might be bugs.
- Reorganized Account settings to match other platforms. (Privacy, Security, Change Numbr, and Delete Account are now all under “Account”)
- Added support for security code verification via NFC (Currently only supported with the website/beta versions of the Android client)
- Added rich text formatting support for message text
The update is appearing now through the BlackBerry Beta Zone app, so if you don’t mind doing some beta testing, go ahead and get it downloaded. Just remember, it’s a beta so be sure to offer up feedback.
